Rather than bending metal into shape like other types of O-Rings, die cast O-Rings are made when molten metal is poured into a pre-shaped mold. This process forms an O-Ring with no gap or weld spot, making it much more attractive. Lightweight O-Rings are more useful for applications such as making purses, backpacks or other fashion accessories that don't require the strength that a heavyweight O-Ring would provide; they are a lighter weight fashion accessory and not as strong as a welded ring. With a 1/2 inch diameter, it is best to use materials that are an inch wide or can be easily manipulated to fit into the width of the ring.
